Default Throttle cable - Edelbrock 1406 carb

Installed an Edelbrock 1406 carb on my 1975 corvette L48. The throttle cable is to long after trying to adjust it. Not sure if it's the OEM cable for as it had a Holley on it. If anyone has a Edelbrock 1406, can you please tell me what throttle cable you have? Thanks!

I have the 1806 but had to use a different cable bracket. I got the bracket at pep boys. Maybe that's all you need.

Too long meaning it cant pull the throttle arm back far enough? If so a new bracket wont help. I have the 1406 and it was a bout a 1/2" to long probably due to the edelbrock, stretching and carpet/ insulation thickness. I removed the pedal assembly and bent the rod a little to get it off the floor. Works fine now. Is there a quadrajet cable available from your parts supplier?

Thanks for the reply. The bracket I currently have adjust pretty far back, but the cable is still slack. The black plastic coating from the bracket to the firewall is like an "S" and is not straight. With the curious if you could purchase a shorter one...?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the actual cable is to long and I can't take of the slack after I adjust it all the way back on the bracket. As mentioned above, the black plastic coating that the cable goes in from the bracket to the firewall is like an "S" and is not straight. If I could find a cable about 2" shorter it would work good....

Looking at paragon there is a couple.of different cables. Can you post a.pic.of you engine bay to help us out. 75-81 used the same cable. The previous owner might have a different year cable on there

Thanks again for the reply. The cable needed replacing, so I already took out the t-cable. But, can take a picture and show what I have. Out of the car, I measured the t-cable and it's 20 inches. Measuring from the firewall to the connector on the carb it's 15 inches. Thinking I have to make up 5 inches....?

The cable is probably going to have a bend, the length of pull you need to address really. From where the cable attaches to the bracket and the length to the throttle arm is what you need to be correct

You may have to switch to an ealier model so that instead of plugging into the bracket, it would clamp to the side of it so it could be adnusted more.

Again really appreciate your help and reply. I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to have to make it work one way or another... I've attached picture, not a good one, but should give you an idea. As I mentioned I took the cable out already, but put the cable back in place to show you the slack with the bracket all the way out... I'm pretty sure I can get it to work one way or another..

Can you take the adjustable part of the bracket that the cable is plugged into, and remove it and rotate it 180* so its further from carb, then reattach it and plug the cable.back into it, that might give you another inch or two.

Other than that, it you dont want to buy a shorter cable and want your old one, I would cut the end off and shorten it, then re swage on a similar end. Its kind of bubba but it would work. You would loose the plastic housing but its not helping now any way.

Take the bracket off that holds the cable housing end and turn it around - should give you enough to make it work.

I used the stock cable with a bracket from Speedway.

Well it's not pretty, but it's functional......can't see it when the air cleaner is on...Would like to find a better looking and more stout cable stopper though....
