This will be my first suspension adventure. Im taking everything off to wire brush, do bushings, and por-15. Ill be re-installing it after winter. Advice?
For a coil spring compressor I used a 2' piece of threaded rod with large washers and nuts on both ends to hold the springs togeather. Remove the shcoks and feed the rod thru the shock mount holes and cinch up on the bolts. Then knock the ball joints out with pickle fork and remove the upper and lower controll arm bolts. Then loosen the nuts on the threaded rod to release the coil. Home depot has the rods for pretty cheap.
I just rebuilt my 68 front end .The best tips I can give you are ,be careful removing springs and EVERY PART DOES NOT GET PAINTED BLACK!! Sorry ,but that is one of my pet peaves ,I hate to see every thing painted black. For help with this refer to eastwoods catalog ,they have some nice detail paint. :yesnod:
Blues77,
Been there done it, mater of fact I just pulled my new coil springs out and cut them. Best advice I can give you is chain your coils when removing them!!! I'm getting the hang of it now that I have done it twice this summer :smash: . Good luck and if you have any questions or need some pics I have tons of the them. Also some on my homepage.
