I need some advice. I'm finishing up a Dakota Digital gauge conversion on my 71. I have an MSD ignition controller with a tach wire that I'll be using to drive the tach input on the DD controller. However, previously the MSD distributor had a cable drive for the tach. Obviously, now I don't need the cable drive but I'm thinking of just leaving it attached to the distributor and the now free end hidden behind the dash. If I remove it, it will leave a good sized opening on the distributor or I would need to find some way to plug the hole. So, I'm thinking of just leaving the cable in place.
Hmmm, I guess I could could a plastic disc to cover the end of the connection and seal it up with liquid electrical tape. A bit bubba-ish but shouldn't that work if I can't find a correct size threaded cap?
If you are removing the cable, cut off the threaded fitting, epoxy in a small piece of aluminum, paint the fitting and screw it back on the distributor shaft or,
Purchase a thread gauge and determine the thread, and diameter of the connector. Once you have determined what the diameter and thread is you will probably be able to fine a brass fitting at someplace like Ace Hardware or,
You could check on-line at MSD or any other manufacturer who makes conversion kits to see if they have anything to screw onto the shaft or,
Go on-line and research an AN female threaded cap that might have the same diameter and thread pitch.
