Ground strap?
I am restoring a 79 and I cant locate info on where the ground strap goes that is beside the right wiper transmission. Im assuming that it goes on the transmission stud, but not certain. Thanks for the help.

A flat braided strap?
Goes from the rear top passenger side valve cover bolt to the black plastic(aluminum lined) ignition (distributer) shield. There's a stud sticking out of the side of the shield.
Then again if you're missing the shield you'd never see where the strap goes.

Kaps, Thanks, I made a call today to the local shop and was told that it is not a ground strap. It is a safety cable. It is suppose to go between the surround and the firewall. Thanks for the help. Ken

YES...I am aware of this safety cable. GM began using it so if the front end gets hit really hard....the top corners of your top hood surround will stay put. Orif they do break..they do not go flying up.
Was that what you needed to know...or do you need more info?????

DUB, I could not figure out where this thing mounted! At first I thought it was a ground but was told it is not. My question was where do the ends mount? Now, Can I just remove this cable? Thanks, Ken

SO...I am having to try to understand what you are writing due to no photos. I assume that you have a cable that has an eyelet (so-to-speak) at the end of it??? And the other end is secured to the firewall....correct???
The end of the eyelet gets attached to the bracket that is pop riveted and glued to the inside edge of your top hood surround where it is in your wiper area. You will see 4 pop rivets on the inside edge of your top hood surround ( on each side) right by where leaves will collect by the plastic screens.....there is a place there for this cable to bolt to due to the bracket has a slip on 'J' nut on it.

Yes, it has an eyelet on both ends. But I am still a bit confused by your description. I will make sure I get a pic on here to you tomorrow. That will help you understand my description better. Thanks

Well, I feel stupid!
There ARE safety cables as DUB said.
I never remember seeing them, or at least paying attention to them.
6" or so long cables behind the debris screen at each end of the wiper channel.
One end attached to the top surface of the firewall with the bolt covered with sealant and the other end connected to a bracket on the edge of the top surround.
I learned a lesson!!
