First I want to really, really thank Jim Shea. Without your detailed guide I'd still be struggling to get the lock cylinder out. Took less then 45 min to disassemble down to lock.
It was the lock, key and tumbler won't rotate. So I can't rotate key to remove bezel :mad well once new one is in hand and confirmed correct
I'll really go to town to :smash: fix it. $33 at GM dealer they'll have it in a couple hours.
I got lucky no broken plastic parts :blueangel:
We'll see how the assembly goes.
You know that you have to go at it like a "lost ignition key". Disconnet the battery. Break off the chrome wings on the lock cylinder. Take a drill and drill straight into the lock cylinder. Destroy the guts and then you should be able to rotate the cylinder to "run". Now you can use a small screwdriver to depress the locking wedge and pull the remains of the old cylinder out of the column housing. The new lock cylinder should snap right in.
Oh I got the lock out, it was stuck in the run position. I thought I had to use the "chrome ears" on the new lock , but that is incorrect after examing it. After fiddling with it a while I finally got the lock to start to rotate again, but I think I'll replace it with a new one. Now I can reassemble everything while waiting for the new lock and it'll just snap right in, correct?
It turns out the small plastic piece in the lock assembly that actuates the key warning switch was busted and had jammed the lock cylinder.
A piece about 1/16th inch square.
It always the $.02 parts that get you
