This is a BIG problem....both bolts seized on the water neck of my cast iron intake......since they were so tight is it better to have a machine shop do this or replace the manifold.....I really want to keep it stock because aftermarkets raise the carb too high to close the hood.........
Are they broken off? or just seized? Drilling them out is not a huge deal, it takes a good sharp drill and some time. A machine shop can get them out for you but you'll need to pull the intake off and take it to them.
I've drilled out bolts all over that were broken. Hit them with a centerpunch as close as you can to the center and start with a 1/8 drill bit. Go slow with lots of lube. IF they're not broken flush, you can heat them and melt a candle on them. THe wax will run down into the threads.
Use anti-seize next time.
I have encountered seized bolts in the thermostat housing...which I am guessing is what you are actually referrign to.
I have way to get these out. I need a bit more information from you. If interested...and you do have some mechanical abilities...PM me....I will get you my shop number and we can talk.
YES...I DO AGREE with the heat and candle wax method...I use it a lot and it does work.
Success this evening....a friend with a machine shop happened to stop by about 10 minutes after writing my cry for help................he responded to my problem better than me.......he took it and brought it back in less than 2 hours and it's all good! Thank God This ruined my whole day but ended well!
