Here is a simple question before i get into this update...I need to change my rubber diffy mount. Can i do this without removing the driveshaft, or is the bolt too long to remove without doing so?
...Oh yeah, it is for a 1980 4 speed i just picked up.
Thanks in advance!!

When was the last time the joints were checked and / or replaced? It might not be a bad idea to check them. They do wear and run dry and when you are down there, it's fairly easy to pull the drive shaft and check everything.
It can be done, but it's a PIA... My biggest problem was trying to leverage down the tongue of the batwing/diff to remove the rubber bushing sandwiched between the tongue and frame piece- without crushing the brake line that runs right where you need to put the crowbar...
