I haven't modeled this combo in any engine tools but my rough guess is right at 400hp even and these heads are known for great air velocity / torque.

You'll still have money for gaskets, a couple new tools-which you'll need to open up the intake ports to Felpro 1206 (I think).

Not sure whether the springs included with the heads are appropriate for the cam or not, though... (Pressure wise; lift wise they're fine)

I have Dyno2000 to model this on. I show a stock L48 with these additions generating 424HP at 6000 RPM. With a high performance exhaust you're looking at 350 ish HP at 6000 rpm.

I'm very interested in doing the same thing. I've been modeling combos and this might be the best bang for the buck I've seen.

Wow, good memory Dave.

I had an XE262 in my 383 for several years. Probably 5000 street miles and 100 quarter mile passes, running as quick as 12.30s with no problems. For the price, you can't beat those XE flat tappet cams. I even put 1.6 rockers on it before I changed cams and the XE262 survived that.

I have an RPM air gap under the stock hood with a 3/4 inch adapter. You just need a drop base air cleaner.

Yep and that cam is a HUGE limitation on those heads.

0.465 lift and those heads have a pretty rapid rise in air flow until 0.550" of lift. So if you can't go with a bigger lift cam definitely go with 1.6 rockers to get more lift.

I haven't found a better way to bolt-on 400+hp for less money.
(Pull the cam stats for something like a Voodoo 268 Advertised and put that in to DD2000 and then do it again with 1.6 rockers and repost the HP -I'm guessing you'll get another 40-50hp.

Wow good estimating! I show this cam: http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2325

Generating 460HP at 6000RPM. With the hp exhaust it goes down to 372HP at 5500rpm.

You never look smarter than on your resume, and your engine never looks more impressive than when you model it in Desktop Dyno 2000...

Those are some highly optimistic #'s for a 40 year old L48 with heads, a cam swap, and new exhaust. (I've heard the torque #'s in DD2000 are more optimistic than even the HP #'s, too.)

Now change the intake valve lift manually to 0.522 and the exhaust valve lift to 0.538" -to simulate 1.6 rocker ratio. -I think you accidentally pasted the image for the stock cam again... (Maybe not; you're valve lift #'s are right... -maybe you just overwrote your previous cam file by not changing the filename?)

That comes to 465hp with open headers.

Yeah I just changed the numbers but didn't change the name of the cam. I'm imputing the cam data manually from a file I have of cams.

Also agree that this is HIGHLY optimistic results. Figure it's 20% off at least from real world. I'm assuming that if I did this to my tire old L48 I'd blow the crank out of the bottom. Then I'd get to get a new engine!
