Default heater clearance

seeking inspiration...

I have this situation - which is probably why the heater box was stripped in the first place!

need to retrofit.... any suggestions as to the easiest way to make it fit? - would rather not change the headers if i can get away with it..

your post and profile have no year but you seem to have the wrong headers on the car

The car is a big block 68... But Probably, yes!

The work was done by previous owner... I'm now trying to unpick some of it and return the car to a semblance of original self - but I'd rather not unnecessarily change the headers if there is a way around it...

With all due respect...I can not figure out your photo.

Is this from the underside/top side...I am lost. It was taken too close and not far enough back so I can see where you are talking about and the problem.

It looks to be that you took the photo from the top but that battery cable is throwing me due to is is not supposed to be there.

I am ALWAYS up for a challenge...but my situation is quite different because people pay me for my time. So I have to know when to stop so the process does not become counter productive. So spending $1000 of my time to modify and re-engineer something when new parts installed would cost $750. It is that scenario I always have in the back of my mind. I just hate the "WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA's" .

Sometimes a person has to know when to 'fall back and punt'...and in this case may be getting the correct headers so you are not spending gobs of time trying to modify something to fit.

Depends on how much you value your time.
