Hi all -
finally , finally , finally ....the AC is working.
Turned out that the NON-AC Delco Compressor unit I bought was junk....
bad clutch adjustment...among other things...very hard to figure out apparently....
Anyhow, purchased a new Delco unit from The Last Detail for $260
and after another $175 in flush, pull vacuum , fill, labor ..etc....
my AC now works and cycles correctly.
BTW, the unit that was junk was called FACTORY AIR.
Save yourself the hassle and dont even bother tryin to buy a non AC Delco unit.....read my previous posts if you want to read about all the hassle and numerous trips to the shop Ive been making over the last few months
It aint worth saving a few bucks .
so now I have AC...now that the weather is getting cooler
Now I need to fight with Advanced Auto this weekend to make them refund
me my cost of their junky compressor...I bought it 4 months ago...
( which tells you how long of a hassle this has been )
That's pretty much true with all rebuilt, aftermarket generic stuff. Sure some of the performance stuff is great but not cheap. I never advise using any over the counter discount junk. It always cost more in the long run. :spam :bs
I couldn't agree more with Silver, Anytime I've those generic off brand parts, I've had to go back and redo the whole job. I just finished changing the water pump and anti freeze on my 79 L-48 and I got a Brand New GM replacment water pump for it. I don't want to have to redo that job in a couble of years. Now I need to get the AC done!
I sympathize. Did you put a new accumulator in? I am fixing some obvious A/C leaks (oils stains near the fittings) and decided to replace the accumulator and orifice tube. I'm quickly learning that working on vettes is torture on guys with big hands!
An R4 is an R4 and it's a POS no matter who builds/rebuilds it....**** poor design, not up to capacity of an A6 or even the Oriental Knock-off designs....
and no amount of new compressors will ever change that fact, and I have seen the new GM units blow up too....had one happen to me in fact....
