Default Fuel leak

How big of a pain is it to replace the line from tank to pump on a 79?
I got a pin point size hole in the line just behind the pass door.

Thanks,
Mike

Big PITA... I understand that to do it right, it's a frame-off operation!

(No experience here; that's just what I've heard. And there's the possibility of Bubba-izing it, by building a 2 piece line.)

I think you're thinking of the brake lines.

I think Zwede replaced his lines with biggers ones when he went to fuel injection...but I may be wrong. :smash:

In Richard Newtons book on "How to restore and monify your Corvette" he says (page 183) "Furthermore, don't remove the complete fuel line on the right frame rail. Chevrolet placed this line on the frame prior to dropping the body. There are some beautiful reproduction fuel lines on the market, and all of them require you to remove the body of your Corvette for proper installation."
Sounds like the best bet might be to cut the bad piece out and splice in another IF you can get to where the leak it. GM did some real stupid things in the past.

 Just my luck, ok how "BUBBA" is this, dont remove the old line just unhook it from tank and pump and place a new line in, over old or around old line some how.... dumb idea or easy fix?

If you want the cheap and lazy mans way out, replace it with an aluminum line .I replaced mine last winter ,the hardest area was over the rr wheel.I disconnected them at the fuel pump and at the tank then cut as close as i could to the wheel well on both ends. After that I got a little violent with it and then the rest of it came out.I replaced it with universal aluminum fuel line from summit. It was not easy but it was easier than lifting the body. :yesnod:

If I remember correctly, Patrick (who usually hangs around in the Factory Correct forum) installed a fuel line by cutting it in two pieces and splicing them together. You may want to ask him how he did it and how it's holding up. Or was it George (GDaina) who said he had a method to install the fuel line? Sorry, my brain is getting tired...

Why not take a tubing cutter and cut the line where the hole is and replace it with a bit of rubber fuel line and clamps? Five minute job vs. major headache.....

Just a thought.

I think this is what i'm going to do, only bad part is that the hole is just before the rr tire and very hard to get to, guess i could cut more off towards the front where it's easyer to get to.

Thanks for the reply guys.
