Default Center Console Removal ? ( '79 C3 )

In part due to another thread ( Heater Core related ) as well as a couple other things my dad did I need to remove my center console to get at the back of the heater switch, cigarette lighter and such. I've removed a couple screws from the lower piece and 4 from the Guage cluster but it still won't come out, something is binding.

Anyone have a good diagrm or youtube video showing how to remove the center console?

There may be a screw holding the radio/bracket in place which is holding the whole cluster in place. The radio is heavy and they added a bracket behind it. You probably need to remove the side console panels which run along the seats though. There are only a couple screws holding these on. But to get one of these screws out you have to take out the seats... lol. You might be able to squish the seats down to get the one screw out but maybe not. The seats are easy to take out though, with the screws from the bottom of the car. Hope this helps.

First remove the carpeted side panels.

Remove the parking brake cover. (4 fasteners--1 each side and 2 at the front going into the shifter bezel.)

Remove fasteners holding the shifter bezel. (6 fasteners--2 on each side and 2 at the front angled up slightly into the gauge cluster. These last two are difficult to see and you need a stubby #2 Phillips to remove.) Slide the shifter towards the rear.

Remove the radio support bracket (if present).

Remove fasteners from the gauge cluster (4 fasteners--1 each side and 2 at the top)

Remove the gauge pack being careful not to let the light in the top damage the dash pad.

The console trim plate will come out without removing the center cluster. There are two trim screws at the front on the under side of the plate where it meets the center cluster; two at the rear and two for the e-brake trim. With the screws out, it's a matter off raising slightly and unplugging electrical connectors.

Perfect. I was able to pull out the center and see the AC/Heater selector is working so I have to track down where I'm not getting power for the Cigarette lighter and the AC/Heat/Vent. The fuses look good.
