Default [rant] What's with the diff. nose bolt???

It seems that I have to get under the car to tighten that F_____g bolt at LEAST once a year every year!!!! Is this normal? Are the rest of you doing this as well but keeping quiet? If it wasn't such a PITA to take out and put back in, I would drill the bolt and put a cotter pin through it!!! And yes it does have a lock (HA!) washer... [/ENDRANT]

Thanks for reading, I feel better now...

Have you tried Loctite on the threads? Another option instead of drilling the bolt would be to put one of those funny looking spring clips just on the other side of the bolt, a piece of thin copper wire wrapped tightly around the threads just below the bolt or if there is enough of the bolt sticking out a small tie-wrap.
I'm not sure that any of these things would give you relief from your yearly pilgrimage under the car, but they couldn't hurt. :D
Good Luck!

IF your talking of the two bolts on the mounting collar going sideways....check the stamping the holes may be elongated....have two washers welded over the hole, and maybe filled in/redrilled....that should stop any 'working' on it...lockwashers for sure....need a interrearance nut on the snubber to the chassis...up front...up and down, with the two biskets on it....
you can't be talking of the differential input to the pinion, I presume....

Torque to the specs listed in the AIM and use the high strength Locktite.

5000 miles and still holding.

Gene, I'm reffering to the bolt at the front of the dif., the one with the cushions or snubbers... I can't seem to get it tight enough... I torque to spec., and next thing I know..Thump Thump Tump ... in reverse.... I was wondering (after the rant ) if a a lock nut (or jam nut) would help my problem? This thing is such a pain, I'm reluctant to use blue Loctite on it....

There should be a distance piece within the rubber pieces to stop the bolt from over-crushing the rubber. If that distance piece is gone or rusted out it might cause the problem you are having.

Something "ain't" right :) As Big Fish said, check the sleeve that goes within the rubber donuts. Also, are the threads "boogered" on either the bolt or nut? I've never had one come loose. Chuck

I agree with Chuck... check the sleeve. If it is missing then the rubber continues tho compress and the bolt will always be loose.

I replaced the cusions about 2+ years ago and the lower one I believe had a short metal insert in it, is this what you are reffering to or should there be another sleeve as well? I don't recall a sleeve that went through the entire length of the set up, but Bubba did own my car before I got it..

Thanks for your help guys,
Keep 'em smokin'

I am certain the factory cushions had some kind of distance piece attached to the cup washer to prevent over-crushing of the rubber pieces. When I got the new polyurethane bushings for mine they did not come with any type of distance piece, so I made one out of a piece of 3/8 black pipe. Might work for you too, just cut a piece of pipe slightly shorter than the bushings when compressed.
