I remember a long time ago I was told that if you backed up and tapped the brake peddle you could adjust or I guess tighten the adjuster a notch or three. Does anyone remember hearing this.? I remember doing it but I couldn't tell you if it made any difference. I'm thinking about the setup and I don't see how it could work.
This is for drum brakes and the star adjuster would self adjust once doing this. I did this on my old 70's Camaro's and Firebirds when replacing the shoes.
If your talking about the e-brake, I have no idea how it would apply.
I remember being told this too (at least about drum brakes in general). I'm not sure that I've ever had a car that method would work with, but I seem to remember that there was some additional hardware on my '68 Mustang's drum brakes that interacted with the star wheels (kind of looked like a ratchet mechanism) that was definitely NOT present on my '77s e-brakes.
If the adjusting holes on your rear hubs and rotors are lined up correctly, you can reach the starwheel and adjust the e-brakes without taking the rotor off. Also, there is a "turnbuckle" in the brake cable (near the driveshaft) that allows you to take out any possible slack in the cable and in effect, tighten the brakes (not as good as an adjustment, but it may help).

Re: Brake Adjustment by Backing up? (jerryp58)
Jerry's right. I just went thru this after a local BB inspection mechanic screwed up the rear brakes on another vehicle of mine with rear drum brakes. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=390060 It doesn't apply to disc brakes.
