Default Head casting number question

I was interested to see what heads I had on my 81 C3 and the casting number is 46262. Everything I see online is for a 462624. However mine does not have a 4 at the end. Am I missing something?

The Book Corvette by the Numbers doesn't have this head. So it could be that it did not come on a Corvette. But the April 24 1981, 1971 or 1961 casting date would indicate that it left the factory on an 81.

That's exactly what I found. Seems odd to be missing a digit. I can't imagine that is normal.

Hi U,
I wouldn't think so either.
Is it possible that when heads were made for 'service' the # had a different number of digits?
Regards,
Alan
