I just got back from a night out on the town with my baby. She's a '74 L48. Nothing outrageous, but she does 120 easy on the interstate. Thats where the problems begin. Anytime a mustang, a ricer, or even a newer GM model rolls past at 90 MPH, my foot becomes glued to the floor board with the pedal in between. I can't help it. I know damn well that my vette is the best damn car ever built, and I have to beat that whiney little <fill any model in here> that just passed me. Its gonna get me in trouble. Is there a 12 step program for people like me? I'm seriously thinking about selling the car. Not because I want to, but because I have a 3 yr old at home, and one on the way, and I know I'm gonna get killed in that fiberglass frame at 130 MPH if some ricer with a blower passes me. How do you learn to not hit the gas? *cry* I need to make her a trailer car so I cant use her on the street, but that is almost a sin! What to do?
Here's your 12 step program.......paste 12 pics of your 3 yr old on the dash :yesnod: Corvette owners have nothing to prove to Ricers or Mustangs :seeya
Fastglass is right. Put a picture of el kid on el dash... change pics often so you don't get used to it...then cruise majestically... ricers and stangs know what you have and what it will do. Your kid is worth than they are. :yesnod:
I worried about having that problem before I got my '75. I have owned 3 mustangs, 2 cougars, 1 camaro and various other cars in my life. I have always felt compelled to prove them when some one blew by. Now when some body blows by I just laugh at him. I don't need to prove anything, I am the one driving the CORVETTE.
See if you can get a hold to one of those videos the state police use to illustrate the importance of not drinking and driving and not road racing. That might cure your condition ;). Also knowing the life that you take may not be your own, but a fellow motorist instead.
Yes.........a year at a time. When you reach your late-40s / early-50s common sense will stop you. When you begin to notice people your age dying from as assortment of diseases, it helps you fully understand how brief life really is.
You could always get a little sign made up like this one but instead of that, it says, "Nothing left to prove!" Anytime someone tries to pull you into a race on the street........
I live in Woodbridge, Va. As bad as the traffic is in the Washington metropolitan area its a wonder you get the opportunity to race your vette.
please tell me where you drive your vette fast and I will meet you there.  On a seroius note though, you have a beautiful child that im pretty sure that wants you around so he can drive your vette. I was just involved in an auto accident on Aug 14 on I-95 north. I was hit by a drunk driver while driving my 76 Caddy seville :mad :mad :mad rear ended at 70+ fishtailed severely but I was able to regain control of my vehicle. Your son is your 12 step program.
Carson,
Concern for your own safety should stop you. However, the first time you get clocked at 130MPH, the costs involved   will help slow you down.
My Vette will run that too, but there’s just something about running a 25 year old car to the limit that does not make good sense to me.
