I am also hoping that when my 74 gets back together, I will also be at the 27.5" mark. I am staying with the 225/70/15 tires as they slightly higher in height than the 255/60/15 tire size.
Ah...gotcha now. That is stock 1969 suspension. GM should have left well enough alone on that one. My wife's 78 looks like a 4x4 when it's beside it.
Good for you. You have an amazing car.

Then you will need extra work to bring it down.

Hi,
I believe the original ride height ride height for 68-72 cars with F70 tires was 27.9" both front and rear.
Remember the size of the tire has a direct impact on these dimensions, and in addition, it has an impact on the distance seen between the top of the tire and the wheel arch.
Regards,
Alan

You are correct Alan.
225/70/15 diameter is 696mm and 245/60/15 - which is my case- 675mm.
So that means extra 10.5mm (0.41") from the top of tire to the wheel arc.
Any idea about how much the wheel arc drops with 8" bolts and 9 leaf spring? It makes any difference with after market mono leaf?
I'd like to drop at around 2" or 2.5"

Hi c,
I 'believe' this to be true….
The car is lowered 1/2 inch for every inch added to the length of the spring bolt.
Perhaps this has to do with the geometry of the rear suspension???
Perhaps someone can verify that?!
Regards,
Alan
My '71 is 27.5 front and rear. I run 550lb big block springs in the front and Van Steel 330lb composite spring in the back. Can't remember tire size off the top of my head.

So are the front springs original or did you cut a loop?
About the rear. Are you running 6" bolts or 8" ones?

Hi Alan, I would think that since the center of the rear spindle is roughly 3/4's of the way back between the front pivot point of the trailing arm and the center of the rear spring bolt hole that you would see a decrease in ride height of roughly 3/4" for every extra inch of spring bolt adjustment.

BB springs are shorter than SB springs they replaced.
Not sure on the bolts in the back, whatever stock length is. I'll measure them to be sure and look at my tire size.
EDIT - 255/60 R15's 8" bolts
