Default Solved my cabin heat problem!

Was on my way to FunFest Friday night. Car was running about usual (around 200-220) for my car, when all of a sudden, noise coming from the of the car like a semi was passing me. I check the gauges to see what's going wrong, and I notice temperature is coming down. Ends up being the fan clutch locking up.

Noisey as H3LL, but the car ruins alot cooler. Temp never got over 150 the rest of the way down to Effingham.

Got to FunFest OK, bought a new fan clutch, installed right there at the show grounds, and car is now back to normal ? (200-220) temp range.

If you could only have the best of both worlds.

See now a bright guy like you should figure a way to be able to manipulate that fan clutch lock at will   That way you and your daughter wouldn't roast on those cross country drives you take :D
Glad to see Iowa is still there despite posts to the contrary   http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=392748

Get one of those aluminum flex fans, I got one and my temp never goes above 180 even when it's real hot out :D

This is probably a dumb question (but hey, I can be a dumb guy sometimes), but your fan isn't on backwards, is it?

It seems the last time I had mine off, I was noticing it could go on either way and I was wondering whether it should be blowing air towards the radiator or the engine. I even asked the forum which way and was told, toward the engine.

If yours is blowing toward the radiator it'd be fighting the incoming air if the clutch was working, but if the clutch locked up, it might overcome incoming air. Yes/No?

Just a thought; like I said, maybe a stupid one

Good Luck.

Good Luck.
You need to look at that again. The fan moves air in the same direction no matter which side is facing out. For example; screw a nut on a bolt, take it off, turn the nut over and screw it back on. Screws on in the same direction, huh? Another example; let the screw be the fan with the head of the screw being toward the engine and let the nut be the air. To make the nut move toward the head of the screw (the engine) you must turn the screw counterclockwise (with the head facing away from you) while preventing the nut from rotating. (This is opposite from the direction of normal engine rotation, but that's not the point. If we were using a left handed screw and nut for an example, then the rotation would match the engine.) Now turn the screw and nut around. The head is now facing you and you are still facing the engine. Turn the screw in the same direction (counterclockwise) and the nut still moves toward the engine. Voila!

The fan on my '79 was stamped with some wording (???) that indicated which side faced which way but probably has to do with the fan's efficeincy or noise level. There is some geomtetrical differences between the front surface of the blades and the rear surface, but the pitch of the blades is in the same direction no matter which side faces where.
