1968 windshield wiper door
Does anyone know if there is any difference between the two?
I believe I remember reading about the washers being attached to the door in a 1968. Would I have any problem adapting it or using it in my 1969?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
I have spent a little time researching but can't find anything definitive.
Thanks, Pete
You'll be able to use your 69 washer hoses and tubes on your wiper arms as intended.
The one difference I can think of between the 68 mechanism and the 68 mechanism is the size of the actuator stud. 1/4" in 68 and 5/16" in 69.
Fortunately the stud is attached to the mechanism with a bolt not a rivet so you can make the switch.
The trim on your 69 door may be a little different (at each end) than on the 68 but you'll be using your 69 trim.

Your existing mechanism/door can't be repaired?
I actually do not have the trim at all as it has been lost along the way. The trim bits are difficult to find as you probably know. The pot metal hinge mechanism on mine broke and has been repaired poorly at one of the hinges and really needs to be replaced.
Are you sure the trim is different. I was planning to just use the entire 1968 set up for sale as a complete unit with door, grate, mechanism and the trim piece. I was hoping to just bolt in the entire unit. For $225 for the complete set up I thought is would be a good option if it operationally looks good (only seen pics so far)
Pete
You CAN use either trim.
The later trim has a slightly different configuration at each end that allows for the use of a tiny screw that the earlier trim doesn't have.
I think you'll be fine.

Alan
Early type w/o screw.

This is the later (w/ screw) configuration.

The AIM shows the last part number of the 68 control assembly to be the same as the 69. There was however a different early version of this assembly used in 68 as well. I'm not sure of the exact differences.
Looking at Rick Bizzoco's 1969 Stingray Guidebook he shows an additional stiffing bracket added in 69 which may account for the part number changes in late 68 production. The pictures are so small in his book I can't really see what his is discussing. It's on page 179 if you have the book.

I think you are correct in that is the support he is talking about. The bracket is shown shown in the AIM on a drawing is dated April 15th 1968. I don't have it on my April 18th built 68, so it must not have been in production yet at that point.

My Dec 68 build does have that bracket and the hole for the screw of my missing trim.
Very much appreciated guys.
If it is still available I will pick it up tomorrow.

My June 68 cars does not have the wiper door support either.
I do not have the screw in the end of the trim either.
I'm leaning on the premise that the May-June built cars were part of a parts clean up month.
