I'm running the Hedman Elite headers, their 14 gauge and come with a thermal coating. They were 255.99 from Jegs, part number 500-68308. Their specially designed for corvettes from 63-82 so there should be no problems with the fit. My mechanic loved the headers because of how well they fit, and the fact that they didn't hang too low to ground. Underhood and interior temperatures were also greatly reduced after the headers were installed.
I'm putting on Dynomax Cerama-coat Headers, $215.99 from Jegs.
those look nice...
whata some of you other guys think of these?
will they bolt up without interferance?
I've got 'em, and I'm told they snapped onto the ZZ4 with no troubles.
According to HOT ROD, for low end torque you should use "stepped" headers. They start at a small diameter tubing and change to a larger diameter. HOT ROD used Hedman Tork-Step when testing GM's 383 crate engine. 1.5" into 1.625". Not sure if Hedamn has a C3 application or if another mfg. does.
I went with the Dynomax ceramic coated headers on my 82. The coating was inside and out so rust should never be a problem. Fit was perfect, it was even easy to modify the existing exhaust system to weld up to the header collector adaptor. Came with everything. They look good and even make spark plug access easy. I can get to every plug from the top of the car now vs having to do six from below.
Various places you can get them from, I ordered them through O'Reilleys believe it or not!
That's what I have too. I deliberated between these and the "D" shaped ones (I have the ZZ4) from Hedman but opted for the Dynomax because a lot of guys here are running the same combo and had no leaks. They seem to be agood buy, all things considered.
