Found bare red wire on my 75 coupe with ac....I put a wire nut on it temporarily. Should the go into the clip in first picture? Pointing to bare wire in bottom pic, pointing to clip in top pic after I wire nut covered it. Thanks in advance.
If if does go into that clip any advice on seating it in there, do I need a new clip?

Reason: Typo
Yes, that is where is goes. It looks like the connector is broken. The old broken piece should come out of the plastic connector after being release by a thin screwdriver. You will then be able to see what you need.
The clip comes out and clips in ok, the bare wire is just pulled out of the metal in the connector.....can I push it back in and crimp or resoder? It probably got knocked out when wiping down the engine.
From the pic it looks like the metal connector is broke, but if not then you should be able to insert wire into connector and solder it. Then insert back into plastic connector, then onto the alternator.
Go to you're local auto parts and on the Help tree there should be a new connector that will plug into the alt.All you'll have to do is make two butt splices which are included with the plug.
Hi,
Is the second red wire (the loose one) only on cars with a/c?
And, what happened to the second wire that's normally in that connector?
Is it done away with on cars with a/c?
Regards,
Alan
The pics I put up are my car which is a 75 coupe with factory ac.
So not sure if the thick red wire is ac only, interesting enough I just tried to use ac (not working) for the first time right before this happened, opened the hood found it loose before I disconnected the battery.
I do have a second thinner gauge wire in the connector.
I still have the frigidaire compressor on the car and belted.
