The short seems permanent now. After hitting the switch, all seems to be shorted. Will run diagnostics as you suggested, thanks!
So after more Easter digging, I realized the left turn signal is not working and it might be causing the short. I checked flashers and bulb, okay. I measured continuity from the bulk connector to a paking light and it’s okay (light blue wire on my 69). That means the signal is not getting through from the turn signal connector?

Well, I dived under the steering wheel and played a little contortionist with the signal connector, had to bypass it. Now I am getting the turn signal to my parking light again. But the problem did not go away.
With the engine off I hit the turn signal - big movement of ammeter, headlights on, almost to the edge of the meter, hibeam added - the needle is almost lying on the minus side.
I do not want to intice you to this direction but lately I installed a new engine harness and the horn relay contact was bad so I saw a smoke coming from the gauge, so I am suspecting a gauge problem.
I just don't know what else...
EDIT: Problem solved, most likely bad contacts on horn relay
