Default Help me out with flaring

At Advance Auto Parts the other day, I bought a tube flaring kit. I figure I might as well learn how to bend, cut, and flare my own lines now. So...

How do I use this thing? I have a metal thing with threaded holes, a puller-type thingy, and a bunch of different sized round thingamabobs. Oh, and a tube cutter, but I know what that's for. :D

Thanks!
Jerry

On one side of that thing, the holes are plain, the other side the holes are chamfered. Clamp the cut end of the tube into the correct diameter hole of the thing with the holes from the plain side until it is flush with the face of the other side. The "puller" grasps the thing with the holes and forces the correct sized "round thing" into the tube end which forces the metal against the chamfers, forming the flare. A little oil on that round thing will make it easier and help keep the tube from splitting. Take some scrap tubing and practice a few and you'll look like a pro in 15 minutes. When making bends, fill the tube with salt, sand or sugar to keep the walls from collapsing and bend it around something that has the same radius you are attempting to make. This also takes a bit of practice. Good luck.

Keep in mind that if you plan to do brake lines, you should Double-Flare them. And if you are going to use Stainless Steel tubing, a regular flaring kit usually only supports regular steel or aluminum tubing.

Here's a prior post on flaring in case it might help.
