Correct carpet/firewall plugs for 72
Anyone have a picture of what should be in the rear compartment as well as the firewall?
Thanks everyone

Hi Barry,
I believe a variety of 68-72 carpet plug markings have been seen.
Ranging from a part #, to various letters and numbers, to nothing.
Regards,
Alan
A small sample.

Thank you sir.
And were they generally the same (rubber) in the firewall and the rear carpet?

Hi Barry,
The AIM indicates 2 fasteners were used…8790 & 6785.
The difference between the 2 MAY be their length.
Once in place they appear the same.
Regards,
Alan

Got my plugs today. Should the carpet tuck under the plastic insulation cover below the steering column?
Thanks

Hi Barry,
No.
Originally the carpet was 'loose' at the top on both the passenger's-side and driver's-side carpet.

Three of these were under my new passenger side carpet.

And my guy cut the carpet in my driver side footwell so short it doesn't even reach the plug holes. Just long enough to tuck under the plastic cover.

Hi Barry,
That's an interesting find!
People generally report the plugs with the part # on them were used in 70 model year cars.
So I wouldn't expect to see one in your 72. It must have come from the bottom of the 'bin'!
What does the tip look like… does it have an extra 'nipple' on it"
Regards,
Alan
