Default Door Spring

Ordered a new door spring from Derby City Corvette as mine was broken. Went to put the new spring in today and it is too long as it won't go up enough to fit in the bottom slot in the hinge after it locks in the recesses on the top of the spring. Took it and measured it with my old spring as I still had both pieces and the old spring is about 3/8 of an inch longer. Has anyone else had this problem. The pictures show how much longer the old one is.

I only went through this yesterday , you mean its too short ?

my new one was going to be the grey one , my old one is unknown how old so I thought I would renew it while I was there.

it just barely reaches the recess.

I bought two new ones , threw one in the bin .Who ever said it was a 50/50 hobby is right , half of aftermarket stuff doesn't fit

Hi Larry,

Have you contacted Derby City with this issue? It's obvious from your pictures and measurement that the new spring will not work. It's possible that there was a bad run of these released to all of the vendors. I'm sure they would be interested in knowing about this problem as most vendors don't want to sell you defective parts...it makes them look bad, and that's bad for business.

Contacting them immediately also gives them the opportunity to check stock and send you a replacement of the correct length if they have one in stock, or issue you a refund if they don't.

I had a similar problem with a fuel pressure regulator I received from FIC a few years back. I contacted them immediately describing the problem in detail, as well as sending them pictures to illustrate the problem. They checked stock and found they had received a defective run. I was immediately issued a refund as well. I'm sure Derby City will do the same for you.

bazza77-- Where did you purchase your springs from? This information could be very helpful to Larry. I can help to show whether this problem is isolated to one vendor, or is more widespread.

Please keep us posted...this is very useful information!!

Dave

I just went back through my orders to 2014 and cant find any record of them ,They were brand new in a sealed bag and have been in my store area for ages , but I also barter a lot of parts so they have probably come to me that way. Not much help I know . sorry.

I sent them an email thru ebay yesterday as that is the only way to communicate with them. Tried to download these pictures on the email but for some reason wasn't able to. Still waiting on them to reply. Hopefully they will give me an email so I can send pictures.

Received a full refund from Derby City Corvette. They said this is the second complaint and that they must have received a bad batch from their supplier. Not sure where to order one from now as the same supplier might be supplying a lot of places.

Willcox

And get the installation tool while you're at it, unless you already have one or made one up
