Today I changed out the front shocks as I gradually work my way through the laundry list of "to do" on the 1980 I recently got. I'm no certified mechanic...but this doesn't look good.
Obviously the caliper will need replaced, my question is anyone know what could have caused this? this is the front passenger side.
I think you are in luck..I checked some images on google and that hole in some fashion is there on the caliper. I just looked at my calipers and yes there is a hole. What it is for, I do not know but if you are not leaking any brake fluid from the caliper, you should be good to go....
That hole is supposed to be there....Here is the same hole on the front caliper on my 72. I think it's pretty much made when they thread the hole for the bolt that holds the 2 sides together.
I've never seen that before is other calipers, and only in one, and mine doesn't look like it is supposed to be there since the edges are jagged. I'll leave it alone I guess.
its the end of the threaded hole , they all have them , probably room for the thread tap to get right at the end of the machined (drilled ) part and its good as you don't have to deal with a blind hole and all the build up of crap that gets stuck down there.
