Seems like we have a split decision here.

A/C...I don't leave home without it.
My thoughts exactly. I can't wait to have my AC working again!!! It's no fun taking the wife out in the Vette when it's 95-100 out. The AC is my next project and I'm going to redo the entire system, seal up the ducts and insulate the interior.

Seems like we have a split decision here.
One reason is..... Non-A/C cars have outside air vents, so they are much better than an A/C car that has inop A/C. ALL c3's seem to have a common problem with the heater door and water shut off system that can cause a lot of heat. If everything works good then you would be ok but if the heater door is parly open the cabin will get pretty toasty. I wouldn't be without A/C here in Florida and that was a requirement when I was looking for my car... Big Block and A/C.. It took a while to find it though.

AC??? We don't need no stinkin AC in Texas!

Once you get the top off, it's really not that bad. If I were using it as a daily driver I'd have AC, but in my case it's strickly performance oriented (or will be when it's complete). It's only hot here for 3-4 months out the year anyway.

You don't need it. Why do you think I am going through the pain in the butt of converting my A/C car to a non A/C car. No, really it is fun. By the way does anybody have any non A/C parts for a 1978 they want to get rid of? No really I mean it. I need parts. :yesnod:

My 73 has it. I rarely use it. Most of the time I'm diving around with the tops off. Its nice to have if you need it and is great on hot muggy rainy days to keep the windows from fogging, but not a necessity.

Also, if the car came with it I would recommend keeping it simply for resale value (I think it is work about $1K+ on a 73).

Good luck and keep

In New Jersey it's an absolute necessity. C3s are hot by nature and most owners that I've talked to have the "cockpit heat" problem. I've rebuilt the heater box, insulated the interior, and sacrificed small animals to the god of temperature. None of it made a thimble full of spit's difference. Add to that humidity and temperatures that reach the high 90s for weeks at a time and you get the picture. Get one with air and make sure it works well. :yesnod:

Jeez guys, it eats enough gas already!

In my experience the interior heat isn't too bad, the rare occasions that I do drive with the tops on! My A/C would be functional if not for a major leak in the condesor thing, eventually to be fixed. Seems like personal preference is the order of the day!

Where I live, it's as important as getting dressed in the morning before going to work.

You CAN do without it, but it sure is going to be a crappy day.

NOT an issue for me here in Alaska. When our short summer season hits, T-Tops are off anyway. Fact is I love the extra "cockpit" hit on these chilly fall days. :flag

Under certain circumstances, it's a must have. That's why I keep looking at Vettes for sale...

I have wanted it on several occasions. A guy in my club told me I'd want it, but I didn't believe him.

I haven't seen a/c on many early C-3s. When I was looking for my car, few cars that had a/c had it charged and working.

Totally unneccessary, even in the DC humidity.

A Corvette is supposed to be a sports car, not an overweight luxury sled.

My T-tops have never been on and will never be one my 77, weekend warrior, WILL NEVER USE THE A/C however I spent $$$ to have the A/C fixed, converted to R-134A so if I wanted A/C it would be there. Also makes the car more valuable/ sellable.

70 T-top,black interior and side pipes. Would not have bought the car unless it had a\c. Summers here in VA. are hot and extremely humid. You will find alot of c3 that have air do not have it working. One obvious reason is the age of the components and replacement price. Also the price of the old refrigerant. Also a/c is a horsepower and gas sucker. But I personally cannot survive without it. Corvette or my 90 Dodge Daytona daily driver.

Makonut -
chrome compressor $135.00
charge for professional to suck out old R-11 and convert to the new R-134A - $175.00

Makonut you cannot get R11, at least legally, why would you wanto anyway? The R-134A is much better.

Mine's broke and I'm trying to get it going. I'm sweating a slow death in the SW FL heat. If this car wasn't a Vette, I'd park it until I fixed the air!!
