Default Replacement Crate Engine Advice 1976 Corvette

Hello and thanks for reading. I just inherited my dad's 1976 Corvette that my family has owned since 1984. He had kept it pretty much stock but I intend to do some work on it. I am looking at replacing the engine with a 383 stroker in the range of 450-500HP. Can anyone recommend a reputable manufacturer that I can purchase it from? I am currently looking at : http://shop.whiteperformance.com/SBC...-383SBC480.htm
I plan to use the vehicle as a weekend driver and to take to some hotrod shows. Not a trailer-queen. Looking for an engine that doesn't have too much lope at idle.
Im sure that there are tons of snags and pitfalls of replacement and any advice would be most welcome.
Thank you so much,
-Chris-

when looking for an engine you have to take into consideration your limited hood clearance, which means that engine would need a different intake than what is supplied which also means it will not put out the maximum power that is advertised.
you also have to consider your transmission type, if an automatic you may need to install a high stall converter.
then there are the rear end gears, you cannt run a cam that is designed to produce power at high engine speeds and use very low numeric gears, 3:08 for instance .
So rather than picking a engine from a website you should call them with all the information about the car and how you intend to drive it and see what engine they recommend

I've been down this road. If I had to do it over again I would go with aluminum heads, roller cam, dual plane intake focusing on lower torque power over high HP numbers.

When I had my 76, I chose the fastburner motor from GM performance. I added the roller cam option which kicked the HP to 425.

Thank you so much. Your '76 is beautiful! Love the sidepipes - bet it sounds as good as it looks!
