Default Soaking Carbs in Gas

I picked up an old Edelbrock carb in the junkyard and it's extremely dirty. Would it hurt if I soaked it in gasoline a few days before cleaning it ?

Won't hurt anything, but you would probably do better by soaking it in a carb cleaner solution if you are going to do that.

I personally would just rebuild it and clean the parts individually. Less chance of fire in the garage.

I have old junk gas from wrecked cars and a safe place to soak. just don't know if gasoline would hurt any of the components . I don't think it would

Nobody who doesn't want to be eligible for the Darwin award cleans carburetors in gasoline. If there are external plastic parts you have no way of knowing what will happen.

wont hurt anything at all. it is a carb, it has gas in it all the time anyway.

Gas is not the ideal cleanser for old gas buildup though. Carb cleaner or similar would work much better. Gas will work to an extent though. Still need to run air and carb cleaner through all orifices, etc.

If there is dirt and gunk on the exterior, I would spray the exterior with some simple green, and rinse it with warm water, disassemble the carb and run it through an ultra sonic cleaner, then re-assemble.

Go buy a gallon can of carb cleaner. A few hours will make it shine. Auto parts store for $28 bucks, walmart for $18
