I think the Super Stock wars really started with the 61 Pontiac Super Duty's, and Don Nicholson's 61 409 Impala.
The Max Wedge Super Stock Dodge's came out in 62, but the class was dominated by the light weight Z-11 409's. Once the Hemi came out in 64, Mopar's ruled the class.
I dont think Chevy will respond with anything. Dodge made the Demon a purpose built drag car and both the vette and Camero are more road cars, sure they can be dragged with success but that's not their sole purpose.
I kinda laugh at the Exorcist, First its not a GM production car so its outta the game right there, secondly Hennessy even says its not a purpose built drag car its still a multi use track beast.
The only thing remotely close is the COPO but still not in the same game. Sure its sole purpose is drag racing but its not a street car cannot be tagged, no comfort amenities etc..... I think the Demon will be on top of this game for a long time to come because they decided to only make a drag car while everyone else is working on road cars.
Dodge has done this in the past, the first car that comes to mind is the '68 Hemi Dart! It was truly a production race car that ran low 10's right outta the box and some tweaking it would run 9's!
I think Ford and Chevy are just taking a back seat and letting Dodge do their thing and wont bother stepping in. Either way the car is awesome!
Sure its a killer in the performance department but too bad they uglified the look of the car by adding those bulges in the body panels above the wheels. If I had the money to buy one I wouldn't, I'd get a different model challenger due to looks alone - no amount of performance would justify putting up with that uglified body.

They should have kept it looking like this:
Ironically, aren't you changing the looks of your car? lol
The question is not whether or not the looks of the car are changed, its whether the changes make the car look better or worse. If the Challenger originally looked like the Demon above and then they changed it to look like the car I posted I'd be all for that change.

Suttle (or not so suttle?) body changes like wider panels, hood scoop, or spoiler........so as to distinguish it from the standard Challenger. Kind of macho, but lets people know what you have on sight. Remember the wider panels on the ZR-1's?

I understand why they did it, I just strongly dislike the look. Oftentimes when your sole motivation for changing the look of a car is to make it look different it ends up looking not as good. For example, I'd say all the shelby mustangs from the 60's look less good than the Mustangs they were based on.

They didn't do it just to change the looks. They did it to fit bigger tires.

GM has been doing it with the Z06 for years but using proper fenders. The thing above looks like somebody bolted on aftermarket flares for a pickup truck. Pretty shabby for a high dollar factory build that's supposed to say "hey, look at me".
