Default Distributor help

I am in the process of getting my 73BB car rebuilt and time has come to get a distributor for my newly rebuilt engine. I am planning on using a Holley Terminator EFI setup and having that control timing electronically. My question is what distributor and CD box, coil, etc?

Ideally I would like to use my mechanical tach with a new electronic distributor... I have not figured out how to do this. I have heard that I can replace the guts of the tach with a newer electronic tach. Perhaps that is a possibility. I need to do some research of where to get these parts. Wilcox or Ecklers maybe?

Regarding the dizzy, I was looking at the Holley 565-100 but availability seems spotty and would be a special order and this obviously does not cure my tach issue. Others might be a MSD, or a performance distributor unit.

What is the best setup for an EFI, BBC with a mechanical tach?

I am thinking HEI just because I have to purchase a new one anyway. Cost is always a factor, but I would rather pay $400 for a nice distributor that works the first time, than pay $150 for one I have to replace in a year.

Thanks ahead of time.

Contact Davis Unified Ignition. They make tach drive HEI's, as well as computer controlled HEI's. I am quite sure they could make you a hybrid.

Talked to DUI and a new dizzy with electronic inards and a mechanical tach drive is on its way. They make it, just is not on their website. Allows me to keep the original tach.

Thanks for the help!!

Well after a long discussion with both DUI and Holley it seems that the DUI unit will not work with the Holley Terminator system, at least for electronically controlled timing. Back to the starting board...

Seems I need to convert the tach to electronic to use electronic timing. Anyone know the best way to do this?

thanks.

I gave my old 81 dizzy to Bee Jay, and he uses it with fuel injection. I don't know why it would not work.

DUI only makes the integrated coil unit in a mechanical tach drive body.

The Holley unit, needs the 2 connectors on the side of the distributor with a remote coil. They also warn that a magnetic pickup like the DUI unit may have issues. This may be noise though because they also recommend a Mag pickup MSD distributor.

Bottom line, I need a GM style electronic distributor with a remote coil that also has a mechanical tach drive. DUI does not make such a unit.
