Default New engine advice

I posted elsewhere that I blew my engine at the track the other day. I welcome any advice on the ideal replacement.

I really liked the lightly stroked, throbbing small block that delivered roughly 200 hp at the tires and 300 ft/lbs torque with a 700R4 tranny. I'm not sure I want to go with more since it will be a daily driver. I enjoyed taking it out on the track, but I'm not sure I will again since I don't want to abuse it that much. I find that it's hard to hold back on the corners.

While I'm at the engine swap, anything else I should consider modding or refurbishing? Carb to injected?

Thx.

383, and rebuild the 700-R4 to handle the additional output. Carb or FI is pretty much your call. Carb takes a little more tuning. FI figures it out on it's own, depending on which system you get.

Do the 383 you can do it mild and still be super strong and reliable
Cost the same as a 350 why not? Youll hate the smaller motor anyway

383 is puff .. Do a 427, Even a mild build will be 100% better in every aspect from power / tq to idle and daily driving.

Thanks all.
The 700 R4 has been beefed up to handle more power, but there is no documentation from the PO. It would be nice to have more hp but I don't want to get into the spiral of required mods to have a reliable drive train.
I'm torn on tracking the 'vette, had fun with it, but I would have to mode the engine to prevent oil starvation around the tight turns at speed. Any recommendations?

As a DD is there a concern for fuel economy? It sounds like you want reliability for the DD at least and maybe some power for fun on the track days.

A 350 can be built for 400ish gross HP or about 280ish at the wheels and still retain good DDing qualities along with reliability.

A 383 can be built the same just with less fuel economy, maybe 15 MPG vs 20 MPG depending on your gearing. With the 700R4 you'd get better MPG in either case than the stock 3 speed trans.

Without knowing how much HP the 700R4 can handle I'd probably be error on the conservative side, unless you want, or plan to get it re-built as well.
