Has anyone had a much problem as I trying to reinstall left side lower dash? Any suggestion welcomed! Something keeps hanging up by light switch that prevents dash from sliding into place. Was wondering if I need to disconnect light switch or if wire harness is blocking where I cannot see it.
Dougtov.. you need to either post the year... or add it to your profile so people can help you. There are tons of very knowledgeable people on this forum but there are also tons that could help but pass you over because you didn't post what year the car is.
So... I'm going out on a limb here... and assume you have either a 1968-1969 or 1970-1977....
But one thing that is critical is the routing of the main harness. 1968-1969 routed under the speedo and tach, 1970 and newer routed above the tach. So if the main dash harness is not in the correct position then you'll have issues getting the left pad in place.
I have instructions on my site on how to install the left pad and all the pads... but I also have harness routing schematics that will help you too.... I just need to know the year and I'll post away.
Hi D,
This is the left dash pad in a 71.
It's been dropped about 2" and pulled back about 1".
If the dash harness isn't in the clips that hold it tight to the tops of the speedometer and tachometer it can 'catch' on the radio speaker.
Perhaps you'll spot something?

Alan
Thanks Alan,
I see where I may have to approach this a little differently, in that I need to pull the harness as far as possible upwards and then attach all wires, cables etc. On a separate note, I see where you speaker connector is clipped to the metal Grounding arch? is that for grounding purposes or just where factory chose to clip the speaker wire connectors?
Dougtov
I painted my arch black but left it bare where it screws to bevel. I'll check around and see if the metal should not be painted (Rust prevention).
Also, I think I'll also keep your contact cause you appear to be the "man" to get good info on resto!
Thanks again Alan,
Dougtov
Hi D,
The link wasn't painted I'm sure of.
Whether it had some sort of coating on it I don't know?
I see some photos where they appear to be pretty rusty.

Alan
If not already, it'll go in much easier if you pull the column and center gauge cluster. If it's an original pad, don't force it too much around the column or you'll crack the vinyl.
