I know this is probably in some archived threads but I couldn't find one. Anyway, my mechanic is ticking me off, he has had my car and new engine for two weeks (pretty unreasonable if you ask me) and he says the only hold up is a starter. Apparently my old one won't work (big fly wheel yadda, yadda). So, what did you guys use?
Re: Starter for a ZZ4...Please help (Mystery Machine)
I had a problem with mine too.I found out that there is basically two types of GM starters ,one has diagonal bolt holes, the other has bolt holes directly across from each other ,if this isnt the problem then try a different flywheel. :yesnod:
Thanks. I called GM and they gave me the following part number: 10465143 but wanted $240!!! I called a local parts store and they had the same thing on thier shelf for $124 (remanufactured but with a lifetime warranty). Hopefully this one will fit. It was waaay smaller than the original though, is this normal?
Re: Starter for a ZZ4...Please help (Mystery Machine)
I've been looking for the right starter for my ZZ-4 also, I found on one of the message boards a recommendation to use GM# 10465143 as the correct starter for the ZZ-4. It is supposed to be a very powerful starter that uses gear-reduction to turn over high compression engines.
GM Parts Direct had it listed at the following price.
Part #10465143
Rem Starter
GM List Price $353.48
GM Wholesale $247.44
GM Parts Direct Price $176.74
$25.00 Core charge.
Which parts store did you find the starter, I'm going to be looking for one myself really soon.
