Default 1982 head replacement

I need to replace the heads on my 1982.it has a crane rv cam . pistons stock.I found a set of aluminum heads 190cc runners 64 cc chambers.are the runners to big and the chambers to small for this motor.or will this work okay for a street motor?

They are not optimal but as stated they will be better than what you have now. If the price is dirt cheap then bolt them on and forget about it.

I think it will be ok. I have a set of the Edelbrock E-Street heads on mine and made a heck of a difference.

what would be optimal?from what I have read I don't want too big of runner cc and the the 64 cc will get me more compression .i had found double hump heads 186 castings, but after all the work they would take the aftermarket heads look good.

A 180cc with 64cc chamber should work fine.

Don't just rely on online shopping and CL. I visited a couple of machine shops in my area and when I inquired what they had on the shelf ready to go I was offered some nicely rebuilt aluminum OEM C4 heads, ready to bolt-on with guide plates included for $300/pair. They were happy to part with them as they had sat on the shelf for a while after a customer changed their mind.

As someone who has China cast no-name heads on their Corvette (I didn't pick them out), I would go for another option. The ones on my car work fine, but I would definitely put my money elsewhere and get a better head for my application if I were to do it again.

Summit Racing iron heads (they're Dart Iron Eagle 165cc heads) would be a better fit for a relatively mild SBC and will carry a warranty from a reputable company.

Terry -- dont know if you're still stock or not BUT those 64cc chambers will take your CR over 10 and the CPU wont be happy with it. If you still have the stock intake, those 190 runners will do you no good either and probably cost you TQ down low. The Summit heads (Dart IE 165's) in a 72cc chamber would bring you decades forward in head technology while keeping the CPU happy.................and while you're at it, buy/install a Renegade intake !

I used those heads on my L82 rebuild. Stock flat tops, decked the block and shaved .010 off the heads gave me 9.8:1 CR. Just right.
