Default Firewall insulation plugs

I searched hoping there was an easy solution but couldn't find anything. The rubber plugs that hold the firewall insulation and plastic cover in place under the steering column, I'm looking to remove them but cant figure out how. Are they reusable or do I cut them off? I tried squeezing them out by pushing from the firewall side but couldn't squeeze the rubber thin enough to get it through the hole. I tried prying from the inside with the tool for plugs but was afraid I was going to break the plastic cover. Is there an easy way to do this?

TIA

Hi Pm,
If you can work a little lubricant (grease) around them, and have someone 'push' from the engine compartment side while you gently 'pull' from the interior side… you may get some of them out in one piece.
It depends how stiff and hard they've become over the years as to whether they can be reused.
New plugs are readily available.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan! I'll try putting some grease on them tomorrow and see if they'll come out. They sure got stiff in their old age!!
