hi All, I am hoping someone can confirm my connections for the HEI distributor. 1978 L-82 engine. In this picture is how I remember it was hooked up ( lost my notes)
My two electric schematics show a pink connection to the battery terminal. I have two pink wires: one is a heavy gauge and I am pretty sure that is the power to the HEI distributor.
The other pink wire is a lighter gauge. Any idea what this is for?
To the TACH terminal the schematic says WHT at the connections and BRN at the terminal block continuing to the circuit board where it again says WHT. I am thinking this refers to the brown wire with the white plug.
The third mystery of the day is the extra condenser / capacitor as shown. None of my schematics show this. What is it and what is it for? Is this something someone added after the car was born? Could it be something added to reduce interference with the radio as the factory shielding is long gone?
Looks correct to me.
The smaller pink wire is for the wiper motor.
The part that looks like a capacitor is the tach filter, it is a factory part. From memory its to protect the tach circuit board from any high voltage spikes.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone know where to get the little connector for these wires? I broke one of the clips off of my tach wire. Thanks

Yeah... had to laugh.... I patiently read through the whole post..was going to reply with some helpful advice before seeing it was from 7 years ago... hopefully he's got it sorted since.
You guys scared the heck out of me! I just woke up today and realized I'm about to turn 65 and have no idea where the time went. For a moment I thought I did a Rip Van Winkle! LOL
