I am in the process of refreshing my 840 heads and just got them back from the machine shop. When I measure the size of my guidplates, they look like the guide portion is 7/16" of an inch and I was just about to order 3/8" pushrods.
Does anyone know what size (diameter) pushrods the L71 came with? Also. are guideplates normally 1/16 of an inch bigger than the pushrods or is something amiss?
I thought the L71 had 3/8" pushrods and the L88 had 7/16"
First engine rebuild (with help from a very knowledgable friend) so please don't get too technical.
Thanks in advance for anyone that can school me on pushrods and guideplates in the 427 BBC.
Pete

according to this link the L-88 used the 7/16" all others 3/8" https://books.google.com/books?id=Mx...ameter&f=false
everything i find state the slots match the diameter of the pushrod 3/8" diameter push rod, 3/8" width slot
