Default '69 heater core

So lately my '69 is a car that keeps on giving as far as problems go. Just got the vacuum and fuel leaks fixed and now the heater core decides to dump into the passenger compartment floor. Two questions:
1. The carpet is relatively new. Can it be cleaned or is it garbage now?
2. Reading the threads on the forum, all the heater core replacements are foreign made and don't fit well. Any direction as to where I should buy?

thanks as always.

maybe I should just sell it.

No...the carpet can be washed out and allowed to dry.

As for the heater core itself.....I get mine locally and do not have to order them from anybody... Maybe someone can advise on who may has the 'best' fitting ones.

The carpet can be washed and allowed to dry.. this shouldn't be an issue if you get on it quick.

As far as the core.. on a no air car you can change the core from the engine compartment side.. if you have AC you'll have to remove the box from inside the car.

The issue with heater cores... We've been ordering them for years from the same supplier and have always received copper cores... until two months ago when they sent us Aluminum cores that suck. We returned them to the supplier because... to be quite honest, they are close but no cigar, they don't fit.

We still have a supplier that gets us the copper cores so we're not out but be ware of the local aftermarket cores that are aluminum, they don't fit.

This might help, sorry the photos "went away."

I ended up buying it from either Jegs or Summit, can't remember which.

Just ordered one on your sale. Probably won't have time to put it in for another month though.

Default my recent heater core experience

My local auto parts is a national chain that I won't mention, am sure they have many good parts and great employees. They ordered a new core for me and I opened the box found it had a significant bend, like an accordian. It was all aluminum and when I picked it up it rattled, you could shake it there was something loose inside. Returned it and was told a new one would be in first thing in the morning. Called them next day and was told the new one received was damaged also and they were expediting another one in and would be there later in the afternoon.
At this point I decided i wasn't going to use their core. Went to the store, when I walked in the guy came out of the back taking it out of the box. Told him that the amount of work involved I was scared to use this core and have to do the job over. This one looked ok but had lost all confidence by then. Told him i just wanted a refund, by this time the core was back in the box and he got an attitude with me and other things were said. Then he just gave the box a toss with it landing on the concrete floor with a thump. He returned my $40, then I ordered one from Zip, was $80, Received Zips core yesterday, all copper and appears well made. Time will tell.

Looks like you already got your replacement. Keep in mind these cars are 50 years old. I look around and don't see any 20 year old cars on the street. That heater core is probably original and most likely hasn't had the coolant changed as often as the factory recommended. Replace that heater core and drive the heck of that car!
