I have a '79 that I wanted to replace the emergency brake shoes, so I took the old ones out and now I an't get the new ones in. I've looked it up and can find where people have done it but they don't really show how, and the pictures I've seen and their verbal description weren't very good. what is the best way to do it.

shoe retainers are the harderst, Use pliers to reach in and compress the spring and grab the top of the pin and twist it so it seats in the retaining washer. The vids show where the parts go. THe only thing it doesnt show is the cable return spring on the cable and where it goes. it goes between the cable end/ lever and the cable retainer tab on the trailiing arm. it help forces the lever back into a nuetral position
This spring position is important, because if left extended it will actually allow the pads to ride the drum and eventually wear the pad down till its metal against the pad rivets.
