Anyone have one of these on their vette? Mine is rusty looking and I thought about buying a blue one. Are these hard to put on? Anyone familiar with their installation? :chevy
The cover slips over the existing dampener & is sandwiched between the dampener & the crank pulley. All you have to do is remove the crank pulley bolts (after removing your belts obviously) then pulley, slip on the cover, reattach the pulley with the bolts & re-install the belts....you're done.
Ditto. The only other change I made was the timing pointer. The stock pointer covers the numbers on the cover making it hard to set the timing. I changed mine over to a Tavia adjustable pointer. Once you put the cover on move the engine by hand until you are at TDC and then unbolt the old pointer and put the new one on adjusting it for TDC also. I like the way mine looks and it makes it a snap to set up the timing and ignition curve.
I understand these covers look really nice & have timing marks that won't vary ... even if the balancer's outer ring does slip. But by covering the balancer, how would you know if the balancer was about to fail?
You make a good point. I put my cover on when I changed my balancer. The original had a leak around the timing cover and I couldn't get it to seal even with a sleeve. While I was changing the balancer I figured it would be nice to have the cover and not to have to mess with timing tapes anymore. The side benefit from all this is that the new balancer made the engine run smoother so the old one was probably on it's last leg.
