275/60 R15 Tires on Rallye wheels
Hi all,
It's possible to install the 275/60 R15 tires on rear wheels with standard rally rims?

Most of us relocate that bracket to the top side of the trailing arm, then you have plenty of room for tire.

Although an 8" rim width falls well within the TRA* fitment window for the tire in question, IMHO it's worthy of note that a wider rim in the 9-9.5" range would typically result in improved sidewall stability during any hard cornering.
In any event, given that even relatively short tires (as compared to a 275/60 15) move around a good bit more under higher lateral loads than most people imagine, I'd definitely move the park brake bracket to lessen the risk of cutting one down at the worst possible moment. HTH
*The Tire and Rim Association basically designates the unified methods and calculations by which the industry determines section width, which shouldn't be confused with optimum fitment recommendations.

I have to say, tho I've never been all that fond of them on 8" rims, judging from the above pic apparently not all 275/60 15's have the same carcass profile. To my eye, many such fitments look somewhat balloon-like, but I see nothing which even remotely resembles crap there.

Eventually I plan on putting some 275-15-60 under my '81. I think I can use 9.5 or 10 inch wheels. I have Global West control arms and a shortened rear spring. I haven't measured for back spacing yet. Any recommendation on backspacing for this combination?

And for reference, the front tires in that same pic are 245/60 so you can definitely see the comparison in sidewall between the 245 and 275 in the same pic, both on 8" wheels obviously. The 275 may be SLIGHTLY ballooned but..It looks how a vintage/muscle car "should" look. I wouldn't want rounded sidewalls on a Ferrari, but I can live with them on a C3...
Nothing worse then having a tire stretched on a wheel and a 275 is certainly stretched on a 10" wheel.. I'd say a 9.5" wheel is ideal for a 275.

"Fits perfect" - not really. That section width tire is WAY over the general recommended size. 235-60-15 is a close comparison to stock and looks the best on the rim and in the wheelwell. The 275 is 4 cm wider and should be on a 9-10" rim if you want the best contact patch and look.

The question asked was will the 275/60/15 fit on a 8" rally, and yes it will. Will it fit in the wheel well, yes it will. Will it look good, yes it will.
I have them on my 76, and they fill the wheel well nice, and have yet to rub anything.
