Weak starts: battery or starter?
I've been having some trouble getting my car started lately. Before, it would crank hard when it was cold and fire up right away, then when the engine was warm it would take about 4 or 5 seconds before it would catch. (It felt like the starter was cranking a lot slower. Is this "heat soak"?) Now, a little while after installing a new stereo and running a line directly to the battery, the starter is cranking slower than ever and I'm starting to have a bit of trouble even in the cold.
What could be the problem? I was considering installing a newer starter anyway to fix this nonsense, but would that cure the problem?

Thanks! I'll take it down to the Canadian Tire tomorrow to have it tested. It's a fairly cheap model that should probably be replaced anyway.
