Default Help with Engine Ignition Shielding and Plug Wire Routing

I just bought new plug wires and motor mounts. I want to install the wires the way they would have come from the factory. With the manifolds and everything apart, now seems like the best time to get everything arranged.

If anyone has photos of what factory wiring looks like, let me know, because the factory assembly isn't super descriptive. I may also be missing one of my shields, but I am not sure.

I have one "V" shaped channel on the lower passenger side, and one shield over the front two plugs. The other side has nothing, but I have two more shields that aren't installed on the car. Am I missing one, or am I only supposed to have three for the spark plugs?

I also think I am missing a few plug wire holder grommets. I don't know where they go though...

Whoops, it's a 1982. Yes, I want it to look as factory as possible. I'm just trying to determine what parts I need to get me there so I can do it right. Thanks for the help!!

Hi G,
I can help with some of the information but not all.
The spark plug heat shields are a bit different for later cars than for the earlier.
This is the 71 set up; perhaps it'll help you.
Hopefully someone with a later car will post some photos to help you.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

He was giving you grief because it looks like you had a small oil leak in the past, we understand you'll do a little cleaning before putting in the shielding. Lucklily your shielding is still behind the starter, most recent threads talk about how much of a pain getting that tucked in there is. Do a little search on recent threads, theres good info on getting the wiring behind the motor mounts. I involves greasing up the boot with silicone and pulling it behind and through. the bolts that hold it on are 1/4x24 thread 1/2 inch long I think. I just pulled mine from a jar on my shelf. might be 1/4x20. just clean the threaads with spray degreaser to flush them out and slowly thread in th ebolt until it binds and unthread it and start over until you get the gunk out or find the proper tap to chase out the grime. it looks like you have one still in there that you can use a s a reference to buy the others

Ha! "small" leak might be an understatement, but I get the gist of it. Not to worry, I am in the process of replacing every gasket throughout the engine/transmission. Once I have everything put together, I'll probably use a combination of brake cleaner and my power washer to blast away the old caked on oil.

Thanks for the photos, keep them coming. It looks like I am for sure missing the driver's side "V" shield, and maybe another smaller one near where the plugs sit.

Well, it looks like all I needed was the V shield on the driver's side, and a the plastic clip that fits over that metal retainer. The passenger side has one, but my driver's side was missing. Anyone know a source for that plastic retainer? I can't seem to find one anywhere!
