Default who has the widest wheels tires wo suspension mods

Like the subject line says im curious who is running wide wheels and tires but without suspension modifacations, no offset trailing arms etc, relocating parking brake is okay, but nothing major.

I know at some point things will hang out of the wheel wells thats okay, flares or can am panels are great,

Please be sure to list your wheel and tire sizes and back spacing..and pictures are priceless, really worthless without them.

Thanks,
B

Hi Bats, with the Eckler flairs there is still some more room to go outward. No mods to suspension, 42 years ago when i put the wheels on i had never heard of "backspacing". Yes these are my American Vectors. I am sure somebody has gone bigger.

Fronts are P255 60 15
Rears are P275 60 15

I'm on my phone so a picture is out of the question

I don't have offset trailing arms

I don't think that stock c3 rear springs and phoney strut rods can handle the added leverage of wider wheels and modern tires

Way back when my vette was new I put on wider 15 inch wheels and the best v rated tires the strut rods allows for camber gains with wheel compression do to the lack of correct mounting point and weak rear spring rate

So the tires would rub the frame rails. The fix was vb&p smart struts and 500 pound rear steel spring

Thanks guys,

Mod, do you recall how wide your wheels are?

Gkull, in 88 89 my 81 wide body had 15 x 10 in front and 15 x 12 in the rear big tires and never broke anything, the guy i sold it to, his brother beat the **** out of the car, it had about 400 hp give or take,

My 69 has all that vette brakes stuff, im not worried how i will use the car i will break anything,

Sadly this thread is more about my fear if i want wider tire than the 11 inch plus minus 295 50 15 i will have to go 18 wheels, doesnt even appear 16 inch has much,

17x9.5, 5.05" backspace.

Was running 255/50r17 tyres:

Now running 285/40R17 tyres:

Just wish there were some taller profile wide 17" tyres available - I visually preferred the extra sidewall height of the 255/50s. I actually think I could fit 10" wide wheels (0.5" wider to the outside) on the front and 10.5" in the rear (0.5" extra both outside and inside) without any issues (and without flares). I do have quite a bit of neg camber on the front (~1.5 degrees), which helps to tuck the top of the tyre into the guard.

295/18'S stock 2002 Z06 wheels front and back

with some strut rod adjusting I was able to get them to go to full rebound and fit inside the fender. Those tires are Michelin Pilot sports, I now have Nitto Drag tires the Nitto's are wider so I dropped to a 285/18. This is with stock TA's with no frame work but to make the stock wheels work I do run adapters. The E=brake bracket has also been moved to the top of the TA.I also run the factory spring but did have the spring de-arched so it would bit inside the wheel and used short spring bolts to adjust ride height.

Thanks for that Neal, I've been considering 18"s and 295/30r18s for cheap semi slick track tyres, so excellent info!
