Ok fellas ... I need some help and direction. Let me start with a background...
I picked up a 76 auto small block last summer, started up fine after I had to buy a battery to get it started and bring back home from previous owner. One issue I have faced with in this year is the ugly after Market radio... when the music is cranked up and I come to a stop, for instance at a red light the radio would die, until I hit the gas on green and it will come back up. Now this only occurred if I had the music loud - no problems with it low.. so I didn't think much of it and just didn't play my music loud or at all.
Now about 2 months ago I started having trouble getting it to turn over. The car would crank but not turn over.. I would take my battery to get checked a series of times (only a year old - but is a wal mart brand) and they would pass it with no problems... I would place the battery back on and it would start ... to stall me out again if I drove it again say with in a week.
So now to the most recent attempt of getting it started ... it would only click while turning the key. Jumped the battery and it started. 3 days later only clicks after a few attempts of starting - no clicks were heard... just a sound less c3...
So I looked into my starter had it removed and checked... it passed ..
although I broke off more than half of the negative bolt/post connecter
So now.... I'm hoping someone can recommend a way to ground my starter :/ so that I can recheck the battery and alternator.. or other things to look for ... the radio / wal mart battery in my opinion seem to be suspect.
If it was mine, then I would just replace that long bolt with another. You may be able to do it in the car... but if not, then it's easy enough to remove and replace. Make sure your battery is disconnected

Get yourself a gear reduction type starter and check your connections and grounds when you install it. Starter out of a 1996 full size Chevy truck should fit.
I think you need a new battery, it is doing everything it can to tell you it is dead. Spend $150 and get a good one. Battery problem is 10 times more likely than starter.
