Default Freeze plug size

I started to build my 1971 350 today. The fuel pump side freeze plugs were 2 inches in diameter rather than 1 5/8 inches. None of my local auto part stores carry 2 inch freeze plugs. Anyone know where I can get them? Is this normal for a 1971 era 350 block? Thanks

Hi 69,
The typical Chevrolet small block engine has eight 1-5/8" and one 2-3/32" freeze plugs, plus 3 smaller plugs.
The larger plug is the cam plug (rear/center of engine).
Regards,
Alan

Alan thanks for your response. My block is different. On the fuel pump side the freeze plug holes are 2 inches in diameter. This block is original to the car and is the first time it has been rebuilt. Does anyone know of a source for 2 inch freeze Plugs? I can't locate any locally. All of the kits contain the 1 5/8 inch plugs.

thanks,
Shawn

Hi 69,
I double checked and the info I have indicates 8 of the 1-5/8" size and 1 of the 2-3/32" size.
Seeing is believing!
???
What's the casting date on this block?
Regards,
Alan

Someone will be along that knows more about this than I do.

It's easy to get the plugs. Pioneer or Melling for instance: http://www.melling.com/Portals/0/Siz...-26-091718-593

But are you sure it's 2" and not 1 59/64" or 2 3/64"? They're funny that way. I have nothing to offer on why your plugs are a non-standard dimension.
