Default Picked up a quadrajet at a yard sale.....?

I have been wanting a carb to take apart and practice on and picked this one up at a yard sale. The numbers are 7037213 date code 3124. From what I find that is a carb for a 60's car with A.I.R. It should be 1967, 4 barrel (federal standards), for a Chevrolet with a manual transmission.

The date code throws me off because of the "4" which would make it either built in 64 or 74.....Did they still make a carb for a 67 model in 74 so therefore it's a replacement....?

The body looks just like the carb on my SB 72 but some of the linkage is different.

Can anyone shed some more light on what this carb may have came off of....?

I also picked up that bench vise for $15.

That linkage is interesting because it doesn't have the kick down cable so you are correct it's for a manual but that extra stud on the linkage might be for cruise control. Some CC systems pull the the linkage forward or mount behind the carb to pull it backwards. Considering it was a rare option back in the 60s that might help you narrow it down. I know the AC system used an electric solnoid to push the idle up when the compressor kicked on.

Nope it's a 77 Chev man trans carb. The first "3" puts it in the 70s

I think you have a service replacement carb. 3124 is the 312th day of 1974. Q-jets were not around in 64. The cracked plastic fast idle cam & small fuel inlet nut are 1960's. Those 2 items were re-designed in the early 70's. The linkage kinda looks Cadillac. caddy used a side inlet as well. looks like a nice un-molested core.

7037213 is a 1967 327 and 350 Chevrolet (2nd type) for a manual trans car with A.I.R. system.

Hell, even as an old core, it's worth more than that! Good find.

Good, rebuildable, undamaged '67 and '68 Chevy passenger car Q-Jets are getting tough to come by. If the float hinge saddles are not broken, that carb is a good one - pre-'69 uses a fragile hinge pin locating feature in the bowl casting that is frequently broken. Don't dismiss the potential value of that carb.

Thank you for the heads up Lars...I'll check that area close when I take it apart.....If there is value in this carb maybe I should sale it and try to find a better one to build as a back up to the one on my 72....It's a commercial rebuild unit anyway.

and i thought i was lucky,
i paid 51$au (38$us) for a local ebay find, and it's missing the choke side brackets and fittings.
mainly bought it for the correct base plate, secondary flaps and hanger.
my 72 auto has a 7042902 - 200 THM/NB2,
and i was lucky to find a 7042203 - 200 off a 4-Speed,

my plan is to borrow a 1970 carb off club member, swap base plates so it will fit my 72,
then send mine off to Lars for a rebuild.

I finally got around to taking it apart.....I may be wrong or not know what to look for but I don't think anything is broken on the float area.....Correct me if I wrong Lars.

Brian

PS....I would like to trade this for a good rebuildable 72 4 speed carb.

Wow - that's beautiful. I've never seen an original '67 Q-Jet in that good condition. Amazing. You should be able to trade it for 6 '72 carbs... Be careful putting it back together to assure proper installation of the power piston and metering rods, or you'll destroy it...

Somebody above mentioned that it could be an SR carb built in '74. I doubt that to be the case, as all the SR carbs built in '74 used a carb number starting with "17054..." It's likely a date mis-stamp - the carb is definitely a '67 carb. Specifically, 1967 Chevy 327 and 350 (2nd type), manual tranny with A.I.R.

Thank you for the evaluation Lars....I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to put it back together, it was a little tricky but watching someone else do it makes all the difference. I guess the best thing for me to do is start a for sale or trade post.

I may have some better photos of the numbers I can post...I will check.

I looked at a bunch of 67 carbs online and it seems all of them have a round tag on the side that this carb doesn't have. I did get a better photo of the numbers and what I posted above is correct.

Send it to Lars and have him rebuild it....then it will be worth something, especially if it's rare.

The carbs with the round foil tag are built by Carter under license to Rochester. Too bad the original plating got rubbed off at the ID number stamp. Should have used some solvent rather than ScotchBrite.

I guess it doesn't take much....I used a eye glass cleaner and a Q-Tip. Leave it up to me to mess something up.
