Default Quadrajet Core. What to Look For? 69 Smallblock

Having some trouble with a rebuilt carb I got from Napa a few years back. Don't know who rebuilt it but Thea label seems to have a "T" and "J" type logo on it.
I finally have the car together but running into problems so I would like to look for a good core for rebuilding.

Car is NOM Smallblock with a mild cam, freshly rebuilt. all stock equipment incl. smog. and points distributor, Manual trans.
Any guidance very much appreciated, Rick

If you drop me an e-mail for my paper on finding Q-Jet cores I can send you some good info. I can also send you the paper about the commercially rebuilt carbs (such as your NAPA carb) and why you need to avoid those at all cost.

Thank You Lars for your generous offer. I will send an email requesting the papers.
I just snapped a few pics to show the offending unit. I bought this at NAPA nearly 20 years ago. Guessing about 1998 or so. It sat in a box until just recently installed.

The number on the carb is 7029223 IY

My apologies for the blurry pics.

That's a classic "mix-n-match" commercial carb assembled from various different years and makes of carbs. It is missing parts, and has incorrect parts installed. It has also been sandblasted to remove all original platings. They should shoot places that do that to carbs...

You should have the articles in your e-mail inbox right now...

Thanks Lars. I got the papers. Lots of great info. I'm going to study it now. I have Cliff's book and also have Doug Roe's book but it's an awful lot for me to try and absorb especially since I don't have any "hands on" experience with these carbs. Thanks again. You've been more than helpful. Rick

If you have the papers and books, rebuilding a quadrajet is not difficult - I did the original carb on a 1976 L-82 I had a couple of summers ago, and it was fairly easy. You might be into a bit more because you'll have to play with it a little to set it up for your engine, but that should be a good experience I think. I like that stuff, anyway. Just take your time.

Lots of good cores out there if you're patient.

Brian

Default Quadrajet

PM me with your mailing address. I probably got a core for 67-69 years that you can learn to assemble and such.
