Default anyone using a parallel flow condenser??

Has anyone who converted to r134a also switched to a parallel flow condenser? I ahve seen on the ac forums that this is supposed to increase the efficiency and reduce high pressures in the system that lead to premature compressor failure with r 134a. Is there any brand that fits well with the c3?

I converted to serp drive and so the '88-91 C4 compressor, and kept the other parts stock, redid the valve, and adjusted the POA valve, but the condensor is OEM to the car, and I think the evap core is also....

been running 134 for 22 years now...20 of them in FLORIDA, and my car is a convertible, I did up the blower motor to a C4 unit, and rewired the electrics so it's really blowing ......90f day ~65f discharge air....

I'm using a parallel flow condenser. Also using a Sanden compressor and adjusted the POA for r134a. AC is very cold and high side pressures dropped quite a bit with the new condenser.

My condenser is a universal one. I welded mounting tabs to it so I could bolt it to the core support. Used the little rubber grommet things you use to mount a wiper motor. Line adapters were braced on by a local AC shop.

Zwede, tell me more. Is the rest of your AC system factory? Would you have a thread that details your installation? This interests me greatly as I could keep my car more stock appearing.

I'm running a universal parallel flow condenser, Sanden compressor and VIR eliminator. It cools very well.

The rest of the AC system is factory. I also installed a C4 blower. Don't have a thread about the AC, not sure there's all that much more to tell?

What did you do for hoses? How did you adjust POA valve? I'm a novice AC tech.

A local shop custom made the hoses. For the POA valve, mine is an old replacement from NAPA. I'm not sure factory POA is adjustable, but my replacement is. To adjust I have to remove the upper fitting to access a tiny screw. I turned it counter-clockwise 1/4 turn (per recommendation from the internet).

I purchased a kit from Classic Auto Air. It had everything that I needed to convert to the Sanden compressor. I also purchased the parallel flow condenser. Converted to 134a. My car is Black on Black. I have glass t tops. I live in Central Texas where it reaches 100 degrees quite often.
It will freeze your a off too.

It measures 22.75" x 15.5" not including the mounting flanges. Sorry, don't remember the brand. It's been a long time since I got it.

Bringing this thread back to life...

I updated my '73 C3 to R134 with the Classic Air VIR eliminator kit but didn't change the condenser...

Discharge air is cool at 50* but not cold like it should be.

I'm thinking about changing to a 134 specific condenser in hopes of improvement.

Any thoughts or comments on the topic would be appreciated.

Thx
mardyn

Here is the one I installed. I got the biggest one i could squish in. Fabricated my own mounting tabs.

It is a CNFP1624 AC A/C Universal Condenser Parallel Flow 16" x 24" with O-ring #6 & #8 connections.
Below is a pic ... you can read the thread for more info....including a comparison to the condenser that came with my hot rod a/c system and other pictures.

My existing OEM condenser is 26" wide by 17" tall... but it's tight quarters in the front end, hood would have to come off again for access.

those universal fit models on AMZ are certainly affordable enough to give one a try.

Thanks for the info.

Check out vintage air. They have a complete kit for parallel condenser with line and brackets for about $240. I think this is relatively new product but not sure.
